EXPELLED MDC Matabeleland South chairperson Petros Mukwena is taking the party to court citing loss of income from organisations which he was seconded to and character assassination by top party officials.

Mukwena was fired from the MDC for misconduct after he boycotted a disciplinary hearing. He has been vocal in pushing for the removal of MDC secretary-general Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga from the National Assembly saying her deployment was irregular.
Misihairabwi-Mushonga secured the National Assembly seat via proportional representation on a Matabeleland South ticket, but Mukwena and others were opposed to this move because she does not come from their province.
Mukwena told Southern Eye yesterday that he was now implementing part of his strategy to have justice.
“Everyone knows that the whole process was illegal and a violation of the (party) constitution. “As I have always said, I have other options to explore,” Mukwena said.
“I am taking them (MDC) to court, most probably early January. My lawyers are working on the paperwork.
“I am suing them (MDC) for loss of income at Jomic where I was seconded, character assassination and illegal dismissal from the party” he said.

In October, Mukwena appealed against his expulsion alleging that the process was flawed and compromised.
In a letter dated October 30 2013 addressed to the president of the party’s national appeals tribunal, Edwin Mushoriwa, Mukwena questioned the legitimacy of the national disciplinary committee saying it had no legal standing or bearing to hear matters.
“Therefore, because of non-legal confirmation documents, any proof in the form of minutes from the national council on the appointments, all procedures of the process are flawed and compromised because of trying to subvert or abuse and legalise illegalities,” part of Mukwena’s appeal reads.
Some senior MDC officials, including former Insiza South MP Siyabonga Malandu Ncube and policy chief Qhubani Moyo, have quit the party over Misihairabwi-Mushonga’s appointment.
