Officially opening the Sadc Ministers and Social Partners Responsible for Employment and Labour in Victoria Falls yesterday, Mujuru urged them to place priority on the issue of youth and woman employment.

“I make this remark cognisant of the fact that, the ramifications of youth unemployment experienced in some parts of Africa in recent years, are too ghastly to contemplate,” she said.

“My government takes note of the co-operation and assistance from the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in providing livelihoods for the youth, through a programme called Training for Rural and Economic Empowerment which has transformed a lot of lives of our youths and women.

“Therefore I call upon the ILO to work with my government to replicate the programme in other districts of Zimbabwe and explore the possibility of replicating it in other countries of the region, given the striking commonalities of our circumstances,” Mujuru added.

She said labour markets shared a lot of commodities and there was need to work towards the standardisation of labour practices.
