War Veterans Affairs national director Major-General (Retired) Richard Ruwodo last week wrote to the provincial executive to confirm that Chemhere had been struck off the war veterans register.

Part of the letter, dated July 16,2014, reads: “This letter serves to confirm that the above member Mashonaland West Provincial chairperson of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association is a bogus war veteran.”

This was contained in a letter written by director of war veterans affairs Major General (Retired) Richard Ruwodo to the war veterans Mashonaland West provincial field officer stamped 16 July 2014.

The letter headed “Liberation War Heroine Status: “ Major Ruwodo said Chemhere was a bogus war veteran who also defrauded the War Veterans Fund of $10 762,65.

“This letter serves to confirm that the above member (Takesure Chemhere NR 29-131588 T 47) who is the current provincial chairperson of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans’ Association is a bogus war veteran.

“Takesure Chemhere defrauded the War Veterans’ Fund of $10 762,65 in monthly pensions’ allowances and gratuity after she misrepresented herself to the vetting panel in 1997 in Gweru.”

Ruwodo advised that the Department of War Veterans’ Affairs in the Ministry of Defence has since stuck off Chemhere’s name from the war veterans register.

Chemhere yesterday refused to comment over charges levelled against her.
