Residents of the town have been complaining of the shallow vaults and urged the municipality to widen them.

This was revealed during a full council meeting yesterday by the town council’s housing and licensing committee chairperson councillor Thulani Moyo.

“We have received complaints from residents on the sizes of our vaults, who argue they are too small. Coffin manufactures are now going for bigger coffins and hence the need to extend the vaults,” he said.

Moyo said that the town was slowly running out of burial space and there was an urgent need to engage a contractor to dig more vaults.

“At any given point, we should have at least 50 vaults for children and another 50 for adults, but we are now left with only a few of them,” he said.

Councillors resolved to extend the size of the vaults and council would now engage a contractor to dig standard vaults.
