BULAWAYO’S new face in the music industry, Mzobanzi Mlauzi (23), aka Mzoe 7, has scored a first by being nominated for the 2014 Zimbabwe Music Awards (Zima) in his first year in the music industry.

The Zima nomination list was released last week in which the young artiste is nominee for best alternative music and becomes the first-ever artiste in Bulawayo to be nominated in that category.
Mzoe 7 faces stiff competiton against seasoned musicians such as Selmor Mtukudzi, Cynthia Mare, Yolanda Candice and Edith WeUtonga.
Speaking to the Southern Eye Lifestyle, Mzoe 7 said he was proud to be part of the artistes representing Bulawayo in this year’s edition of Zima.
“I feel so happy to be one of Bulawayo’s artistes who have made it to the nominees list at Zima.
“Most people thought Bulawayo had no talent. We are here and l have been nominated in a category with big acts and this shows that our art is recognised,” he said.
Mzoe 7’s music is a fusion of azonto, hip-hop, jazz and Afro-beat. Some of the tracks that made him nominated are probably Wedding Day and Kwasa Kwasa.

He added: “I feel honoured and there is more to come. My music speaks for itself. I am very creative.
“I am happy that my art was able to stand out for itself. I believe my family and House Rebels made me sing the right music at the right time. I have worked with the best producers Lajosh, Mjokes and Blaqs.
“I am here to add more colour to the local music industry for we are competing with international acts.”
Meanwhile, some of the Bulawayo artistes in this year’s nominees list are Black Umfolosi, KLAP and the best house music was dominated by home artistes such as Djembe Monks, Khuxxman, Defined House and S’kaiva who was nominated twice. L Kat from Kwekwe and Mookomba from Victoria Falls are in.
