COULD Highlanders finally end their cup games woes when they face How Mine in the Chibuku Cup quarter-final to be played at Hartsfield Rugby Ground on Sunday?

THANDIWE MOYO SPORTS CORRESPONDENT The match, like the other three matches, will be beamed on SuperSport between Saturday and Monday.

A double header is in store at Mandava Stadium on Saturday where FC Platinum and Caps united resume their rivalry at 3pm after the Chiredzi and Harare City tie, which will kick off at 1pm.

Financially troubled Caps United have a bone to chew with FC Platinum who handed them their biggest defeat of the season last weekend in the ZNA Charities Shield final beating them 6-0 at Mandava.

On Monday, Black Rhinos and Triangle will play at a neutral venue at Ascot Stadium.

Highlanders have been booted out or lost in the finals of all six cup games that have been played this season with the last being a humiliating 1-4 defeat at the hands of rivals Dynamos.

They would soon want to forget their embarrassing performance, but their cup woes will follow them to the Chibuku quarter-final match where they will meet How Mine for the third time in cup tournaments.

How Mine and Bosso played in the Mbada Diamonds Cup Final last year with the former league champions winning 3-0. They met in the One Wallet Cup in July this year and How Mine got the better of Bosso after playing a 1-1 draw going on to win 4-3 on penalties.

This season Bosso were bundled out of the Independence Trophy 5-6 on penalties by FC Platinum, beaten 0-2 in the Bob 90 Super Cup by Dynamos, knocked out by Chapungu 1-2 on penalties in the Cephas Msipa Charity Tournament and faced a 2-3 defeat at FC Platinum in the ZNA Charities Cup.

Their recent poor showing has seen the executive demand that the technical team pull up their performance “or else . . .”

How Mine will be banking on Bosso’s poor showing in their last cup outing despite having had their regular players.

Bosso fielded their starting 11 who include Ariel Sibanda, Dumisani Ndlovu, Eric Mudzingwa, Bruce Kangwa, Felix Chindungwe, Joel Ngodzo, Charles Sibanda, Simba Sithole and Pasca Manhanga.

How Mine have constantly made use of regulars Gilbert Banda, Brighton Dube, Kuda Musharu, Timothy January, James Chitereki and Wonder Sithole.

This will be Masomere’s second cup match since taking over from Philani Ncube after being beaten 0-2 by Dynamos in the OneWallet semi-final at Mandava Stadium a couple of weeks ago.

Masomere, has with How Mine, won one league match and lost a cup game and would want to make amends by proceeding to the semi-finals of the Chibuku Cup,
