Marime’s wife Tsitsi (36) appeared before Zvishavane magistrate Peter Madiba facing assault charges for the log attack and was remanded out of custody to next week when her husband would be well enough to testify.

The State alleged that Marime received tip-offs about his wife’s alleged infidelity from concerned residents and he decided to peruse through her WhatsApp messages as part of his investigations last Saturday.

However, Tsitsi caught him in the process of reading her messages and a heated argument ensued between the couple.

According to the State’s outline, later that night, Marime slept on the couch while Tsitsi retired in the bedroom.

The State alleged that Tsitsi ambushed Marime the following morning while he was watching television and struck him on the head and neck with a log.

He also sustained serious injuries on his right hand after it took several blows as he tried to block his wife’s attack.

Marime was saved from further battery by a neighbour, Peter Munaki, who rushed to the house after hearing him screaming in agony and restrained the fuming Tsitsi from inflicting further pain on her husband.

Marime suffered serious head and other unspecified injuries and is currently admitted at Shabanie Mine Hospital where he is reported to be in a serious condition.
