Enerst Masendeke (30), his alleged co-accused Walter Mahofa (41) and Lazarus Mukarati (35) are accused of killing Kwekwe resident Jonathan Mpofu at Mbizo 4 shopping centre in March 2013 following a pub brawl.
The trio has been in remand prison for almost two years.
It is the State case that the three and their other accomplices, who are still on the run, brutally assaulted Mpofu, leading to his death.
“The accused persons or one or more of them unlawfully caused the death of Jonathan Mpofu by assaulting him with booted feet, switches, stones and a machete on the head and all over the body intending to kill him or realising that there was a real risk or possibility that their conduct may cause death and continued to engage in that conduct despite the risk or possibility,” part of the State outline reads.
Prosecutors have indicated that they will call five witnesses.
These include the bar attendant where the offence was committed, a pathologist who carried out a post mortem on Mpofu’s remains and three police detectives who attended the scene of the murder.
