Umahlekisa, which is now home to many local comedians — Nomsa Dee, Long John, Keith Nkosi, H O and Erlando De Genario — has staged shows in churches, bars, hotels and restaurants.

The group has in the past taken their hilarious acts to Harare’s Book Café (now closed), Simuka Open Mic Comedy Show and Intwasa Xtra Comedy Night.

Last week, comedy lovers were in for a treat as scores of people drawn from around Bulawayo were left in stitches by the cast of renowned comedians in a show dubbed “So You Think You Can Laugh?”

Umahlekisa director Ntando Van Moyo said he was happy that the platform was fast gaining popularity.

“We are happy that our audience is fast growing. I would like to thank those who have supported us in the corporate world and we are urging more corporates to join us in growing this genre as it will create employment for more budding talented comedians who want to further comedy as business,” he said.

Babongile Sikhonjwa kept the crowd entertained with his new bag of jokes while Zwexy Makina continued with his tribal jokes that dwell much on past experiences of Ndebele and Shona people.
