Highlanders footballer Gabriel Nyoni, one of the candidates vying for the presidency of the Students Representative Council at the National University of Science and Technology (Nust) has been accused of hiring strippers and roping in an unnamed Zanu PF official to bankroll his campaign.

Nyoni, a striker at Highlanders, is alleged to have hired Harare strippers —Spider and the Naked Weapon — to spearhead his presidential campaign.

Zimbabwe National Students Union (Zinasu) provincial chairperson, Evidence Mufambi told Southern Eye that some students were not comfortable with having an SRC president linked to a political party.

“We understand that Gabriel Nyoni is being sponsored by one Zanu PF member and our concern as students is that he will compromise his position if he becomes an SRC president. He will fail to stand for the rights of the students in the expense of the certain political party. Students bodies should be apolitical,” Mufambi said.

“The other thing is that he is promoting moral decadence in our society. How can he invite students to a strip club? Will our parents be happy to hear that their children are participating in vuzu parties? I don’t think so.”

However, Nyoni yesterday rubbished reports that he was being bankrolled by Zanu PF.

“I am not behind any political party,” he said.

“It was not a striptease club as they suggest. I just invited other DJs to come and enjoy with me as I was doing the campaign for SRC.”

Nyoni, a fourth-year marketing student, hosted the gig at Club Forty40 at a party dubbed College Manifesto Bash last Friday.

The Harare strippers reportedly left revellers begging for more.
