Vice-Chancellor Professor Pardon Kuipa said the university was hopeful of extending its operations to all the districts in the province.

“We will work with various government departments to make sure the university becomes fully-fledged in the province through spreading its activities across the area and also diversifying its operations,” he said.

The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa), as a key stakeholder in Lupane, is expected to be pumping water to the institution by the end of the year. The water utility has completed setting up a purification plant and is now waiting for Zesa to connect power so that servicing of the whole community begins.

Zinwa has also agreed to supply raw water to LSU to green up the environment and make it more habitable.

The university has been operating in Bulawayo since its inception in 2005 and has grown over the years currently having an enrolment of 2 929 students. It was meant to move to the provincial capital of Matabeleland North in June, but this failed due to funding challenges.

Relocation is now expected to begin in January next year starting with the Faculty of Agriculture and the Department of Geography
