A BULAWAYO-BASED company, Eastgate Motor Spares, has been taken to court by the Environmental Management Agency (Ema) on charges of littering the streets.

The company’s chief executive officer, Lister Dube, was not asked to plead to the charge of illegally exposing or dumping waste when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Tinashe Tashaya.
The court heard that on January 15 last year, Ema’s Bulawayo inspector Fredrick Maponga conducted a survey in the city and discovered that there was paper litter dumped along Brent Road in Matsheumhlope.
Further investigations showed that Eastgate Motor Spares, located at 12A 4th Avenue and Jason Moyo Street in Bulawayo, was responsible for the litter.
On January 19, 2015, Eastgate Motor Spares was issued with a ticket, by Ema, ordering the company to clean the area and also pay $100 fine.
It is the State case that the company ignored the order and did not pay the fine.
