MAXWELL Jongwe has left his post as coach of Southern Region Division One side Bulawayo Chiefs to attend to urgent family matters, the club said yesterday.
His wife is reported to have been unwell for some time.
However, Jongwe has also been linked with a move back to Castle Lager Premier Soccer League side Yadah.
Jongwe took over after The Ninjas were relegated from the premier league last season.
The former Caps United coach will be replaced by his assistant, Bekithemba “Super” Ndlovu.
“Bulawayo Chiefs FC wishes to inform all stakeholders that we have received a letter of resignation from our head coach, Maxwell Takaendesa Jongwe. Coach Jongwe had recently taken a leave of absence to attend to his wife, who has been unwell for some time now. Understanding the importance of family, the club fully supported his decision to allow him to be closer to his loved ones in Harare during this challenging time,” the club said in a statement.
“After careful consideration, the club has accepted Jongwe's resignation. We respect his decision to prioritise his family and wish him all the best as he embarks on new engagements in his home city, Harare, which is where his family is. In light of this development, Bulawayo Chiefs FC will be undertaking certain logistical obligations to ensure a smooth transition within the coaching staff. In the interim, coach Bekithemba Ndlovu will assume the lead role as head coach, with assistance from Anzlom Ndlovu and Nkosiyazi Ncube until further notice.”
Chiefs paid homage to Jongwe for his contribution to the club in a short space of time. The gaffer joined The Ninjas in January this year.
