MASVINGO — MDC-T organising secretary for Masvingo Central, Cleopas Madariro (35), allegedly struck his second wife’s lover with an axe before hanging himself after he found the two being intimate. By Tatenda Chitagu

The incident occurred on Tuesday night after Madariro of farm 224, Mushawasha plots, allegedly found Charles Matavada (34) pants down with his second wife Sarah Ruwode (28) at Chesvingo business centre under Chief Murinye area.

Ruwode is a bar tender at the shops. Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Peter Zhanero confirmed the incident, saying Madariro hacked his wife’s boyfriend in the head before hanging himself a few metres from his homestead.

Sources said Madariro got a tipoff that his wife was cheating on him and he woke up at around 1am on Tuesday night armed with an axe and headed to the shopping centre and went straight into his wife’s room.

After knocking, a male voice answered and this further infuriated him, as the lovebirds refused to open the door.

The cuckolded husband then gained entry after breaking a window and found Matavada putting on his pants, while his wife was stark naked.

Seeing that he had an axe, Ruwode unlocked the door and fled naked, while the wife also fled in a different direction.

The MDC-T official followed in hot pursuit, catching Matavada about 30 metres from the shops and hacked him in the head.

“Matavada died instantly and Madariro left the scene,” Zhanero said. “Police details who had gone to arrest him following the murder report, found him hanging from a tree near his cattle pen.”

Zhanero urged members of the public not to use emotions when faced with domestic disputes, but instead, seek guidance from relatives and elders. [email protected]
