According to the latest council minutes, the squatters took advantage of delays in the resettlement of homeless people from the Killarney and Trenance squatter camps to settle at the site on the city’s outskirts.

“Some families went on to occupy the 18 stands illegally,” the council minutes read.

“These families were not in any of the lists submitted to the council for consideration.”

The local authority said Mazwi residents’ association chairman Peaceful Kaonga should advise the squatters to vacate the area or face eviction.

Council had resolved to allocate 18 residential stands to vulnerable families that had been evicted from Killarney and Trenance squatter camps.
