Thembani Ncube (32) of Waterford suburb is facing a domestic violence charge as defined under Section 3(1)(a) of the Domestic Violence Act Chapter 5:16 as read together with Section 4(1) of the same Act.

Prosecutor Shepherd Nhamburo told the court that sometime in February this year, the accused and the complainant Shelly Makwanya were staying together as husband and wife.

“The accused then married another woman and brought her home where they had only one room,” he said. “This, however, did not go down well with the complainant and the two had a misunderstanding over the second wife.”

Nhamburo said this led to the accused allegedly assaulting the complainant with a whip and fists all over the body, while the second wife watched.

“In a bid to rescue herself from further harm, the complainant then ran to the main house to seek assistance, but unfortunately hit the glass door with her left hand and sustained three deep cuts as a result of broken glass,” the prosecutor explained.

He said the accused then went to United Bulawayo Hospitals for medical examination.

“She was, however, not issued a medical report,” Nhamburo said. Ncube was remanded out of custody to tomorrow for trial.
