The programme, which started at Khayelihle and Emthunzini Wethemba children’s homes, would run under the theme: “Expanding and promoting theatre to the overlooked sections of the society”.
Nonhlalo Dube, the project coordinator, said the project sought to empower children with acting, playwriting and directing skills.
“Everything is now in place and the preliminary training sessions are already underway,” she said.
“Our project is now on track with preliminary stages showing a lot of potential in such a way that I am convinced that it will be an exciting one-year programme working with the children in the homes.
“From the two homes we have visited, you can tell that art and entertainment is one thing you cannot separate from children.”
As part of the project, the organisation will be engaging professional and seasoned theatre practitioners as guest tutors for the children.
