Both teams qualified after finishing first and second respectively at the Africa sub-zone Group K qualifiers held in Lilongwe, Malawi, in July.

The women’s team, coached by Vulindlela Moyo, topped their group winning all their matches.

The women’s team emphatically beat hosts Malawi 3-0, got a narrow 3-2 win over second-placed Zambia and finally won 3-1 against Namibia while the men’s team coached by Artwell Gororo started with a 3-1 victory over the hosts before they lost 3-2 to eventual group winners Zambia before wrapping up with a 3–1 win over Namibia.

ZVA secretary-general Ringisai Mapondera yesterday told Southern Eye that they need $25 000 for the trip.

“We are appealing for funds to send the men’s team to Botswana on October 7-14 and the women’s team to Zambia from 22-27 October. The two top teams will then go to the African qualifiers although we have not been informed on the venues yet.We need about $25 000 for both teams,” he said.
