Ekuphumuleni administrator Sibusisiwe Khumalo said the money would help them overcome food shortages besetting the institution.

“We thank them very much. They have made us cross over a very big river,” Khumalo said.

She said Ekuphumuleni would use the money to develop an irrigation project, including the acquisition of a booster pump to ensure food security at the home.

MBCA managing director Charity Jinya handed over the cheque to Khumalo.

Ekuphumuleni is a convalescence centre for elderly people aged 60 years and above.

It is looking after 43 patients and heavily relies on well-wishers.

To sustain itself, the home has several projects such as on chicken breeding, egg production and market gardening.
