Constable Kudakwashe Matumbike of Nkayi Police Station was being jointly charged with Nkayi villager Sidumo Dube (34) of 236 Belmont, Nkayi Centre, after he allegedly cleared stolen cattle.

The two pleaded not guilty when they initially appeared before Gokwe resident magistrate Shepherd Mjanja and were out on $300 bail each.

Their trial was expected to start on Tuesday, but they both did not turn up prompting the magistrate to issue a warrant of arrest for them.

Charges are that on July 18 this year, Dube, in the company of two other accomplices still at large, went to Mabhudumo village under Chief Mukoka in Gokwe where they stole six cattle belonging to Munetsi Musariri in the Nyaje area.

Dube drove the cattle to Nkayi where he allegedly connived with Matumbike to have the beasts cleared in the name of a fictitious person called Mathuthu Wilson.

Dube then allegedly sold the cattle to Mbokodo Abottiors on July 23 for about $3 600.
