TOKYO — Partnering for the first time, India’s Sania Mirza and Zimbabwean Cara Black went on to win the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo, after sealing a thrilling final against Liezel Huber and Hao-Ching Chan 4-6, 6-0, 11-9 in 1 hour 25mins.
After being edged out in the opening set, the Mirza and Black team showed no clemency as they converted 3-3 break points to bagel their opponents and hurl the match to the super tie breaker, where the Indian-Canadian combination rallied on strong first serves to sneak a 11-9 win, and eventually won the first title together.
Thrilled over the victory, Sania Mirza tweeted: “#champions #yesss #wedidit #comeonnnnnn (sic)” Sania Mirza and Cara Black now head on to Beijing to play their next WTA Premier tournament.
