The festival is slated for December 17 to 22.

“Celebrate Living” is the official theme for the 2013 Ibumba Festival. Ibumba continues to build and develop its international following and to celebrate 2013 with a new theme.

Celebrate Living is the conclusion of a three-year artistic vision which celebrates the beauty of the arts and fosters artistic excellence in the suburbs and Bulawayo at large.

An expression of the way we expect our people, their work, the artists, the acts, audiences and partners to celebrate their being, their local community and the city as we assist the rejuvenation and rebranding of Zimbabwe and take a role in confirming that “Bulawayo is the cultural hub of Zimbabwe”

The publicity will be loud and full of life and seen all over the city, the music will even be louder and the festival will be a celebration of life and embracing all and sundry.

We will use the halls, theatres, streets, parks and open spaces to create a new world, while exploring Bulawayo and the suburb’s popular traditions, diversity and global links.

Creative responses to the environment will run throughout the 2013 programme with surprising new approaches to familiar local green spaces as we seek to celebrate living.

The festival will again “tell the story” of the areas involved, in a poetic and visually spectacular way. We will explore and reflect the unique identity of our city.

For generations Bulawayo and Makokoba have been symbiotically connected with music, theatre and other arts.

The festival will respond to this by using music and the arts to inspire new commissions and innovative approaches to staging and rebranding of Zimbabwe’s arts, while the main site, Stanley Hall and Stanley Square’s extraordinary location and settings will continue to host stunning performances.

Ibumba Festival continues to be inspired by the dreams and aspirations of artists, creators and idealists. Celebrate life and be inspired at Ibumba Festival this year. Saimon Mambazo Phiri is the director of Siyaya Arts organisers of Ibumba Festival.
