ZIMBABWE Davis Cup tennis player Benjamin Lock won the ITA South-east Regional Championships’ doubles title on Tuesday to qualify for the prestigious USTA/ITA National Collegiate Indoor Championships to be held in New York next month.

Lock, on a tennis scholarship at Florida State University, US, combined with his teammate Marco Nunez to upset their higher ranked opponents Oliver Pramming and Ignacio Gonzalez of the University of South Florida (USF).
Lock and Nunez started the match with an early break to go up 2-1. The pair held serve and kept breaking Pramming and Gonzalez of USF until they made it 7-2.
Nunez served the ball at 40-30 to have Lock control the ball at the net until Lock closed it out with a volley which USF sent into the net to win the match 8-2.
Lock expressed delight after the win which earned him a ticket to New York for the national finals next month.
“Marco and I are ecstatic about this win,” Lock told the Florida State University official website after the match.
“Today was another great day at the office. Marco played amazing tennis and coach Nick was doing a great job out there. I’m so happy to win this tournament and having earned a trip to New York at the National Indoors. It’s a great day to be a Seminole.”

The USTA/ITA National Collegiate Indoor Championships which attract the top tennis players on the US Collegiate tennis circuit will run from November 7-11 at the Billie Jean National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York.
