Muchaneta Mututu of Hamara Farm begged Mpofu to incarcerate her husband Tendai Mashava saying he was very abusive.

“What do you want me to do with your husband madam?” Mpofu asked.

“Please send him to prison. He always assaults me,” Mututu replied.

However, Mashava told the court that his wife wanted him to be jailed because she now has a boyfriend.

Mashava was not asked to plead to physical abuse as defined by Section 3 (a) of the Domestic Violence Act. He was remanded in custody to tomorrow for plea recording.

Caroline Matanga for the State told the court that on October 9 Mashava and his wife had a misunderstanding.

It is alleged that Mashava convinced his wife to leave her job at a restaurant in Bulawayo and join him at the farm where she would work in the kitchen.

However, when Matutu left her employment and joined her husband at the farm, she did not get the job as promised.

They started quarrelling and Mashava told her that he wanted her to be a housewife.

The State alleges that the misunderstanding later degenerated into a scuffle and Mashava assaulted his wife and kicked her ribs and thighs.

She sustained some injuries and reported the matter to the police, leading to his arrest.
