A GANG of robbers reportedly pounced on Richmond SPAR supermarket on Saturday afternoon stealing an undisclosed amount of cash and goods.
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo confirmed the incident, but could not disclose more details saying the SPAR manager had failed to furnish them with information about what exactly was stolen.
“I can confirm that there was a case of robbery at Richmond SPAR and the robbers reportedly looted some undisclosed goods. The manager failed to furnish the police with information on how many goods were stolen,” Moyo said.
He added that the police were investigating the case.
Richmond SPAR staff confirmed the robbery, but declined to shed more light.
There has been an increase in cases of robbery across the country and our sister paper NewsDay reported on October 23 that Harare police had lamented an upsurge in robbery and burglary cases.
Although police could not give clearer details, they said house robbery and burglary figures had rocketed.
