Shone was being jointly charged with Sikhulile Moyo, Morgan Zulani Ndlovu and Bruce Ziyambi for allegedly robbing a city family of $400, jewellery and a 357 Smith and Wesson revolver last year.

Shone and Moyo were both acquitted due to lack of evidence linking them to the crime while Ziyambi was sentenced to four years eight months in prison on his own plea of guilty.

Ndlovu is still on remand as he is suspected to be mentally ill. Shone said detectives forcibly gained entry into his house which was under the care of a caretaker while he was away in South Africa, broke down the door of his bedroom and took some of his personal belongings.

In a letter to the officer-in-charge of Bulawayo police’s homicide section, Bulawayo dated December 4, Shone wrote: “In the course of investigating an armed robbery case against me at the house, detectives took my Mercedes-Benz spare keys and Mazda 6 handbook and manual.

I request that they return my property which they are holding. I will take charge of the repair of the door they broke when they wanted to gain entry into the house.”

Responding to Shone’s letter, a letter signed by the officer-in-charge of the homicide section a Detective Inspector Dowa on December 6 titled Re-Return of Goods held by CID Homicide Bulawayo reads: “We acknowledge receipt of the letter dated December 4 2013 in which the above subject is pertinent. We have since instituted an investigation into the issue We will revert back to you as soon as investigations are complete.”
