Thirty days were wholly suspended on condition that he does not commit a case involving physical abuse in the next five years.

Lazarus Dube (38) of Sengezane village under Chief Nhlamba in Guyu, pleaded guilty to charges of physical abuse when he appeared before Gwanda magistrate-in-charge Reuben Mukavhi last Friday.

According to the State’s case outline, December 29 last year at around midday, Dube’s wife Debra Sibanda arrived at her husband’s homestead in the company of two relatives who wanted to solve the couple’s differences.

Dube, who also possesses a South African identity document under which he is known as Lucas Mdluli, refused to give his wife and her delegation audience and ordered them to leave his homestead.

When they did not comply, Dube became violent and went to his vehicle where he retrieved a sjambok which he used to whip his wife several times all over her body ordering her and her relatives to leave his homestead.

Sibanda sustained injuries and reported the matter to the police, leading to Dube’s arrest.
