A MPOPOMA man died at Mpilo Central Hospital yesterday afternoon after severing his penis with a knife for reasons that could not be immediately established. LUYANDUHLOBO MAKWATI OWN CORRESPONDENT
Freddy Nachi, who is believed to be in his 30s, mutilated his genitals on Sunday morning in a bizarre and nerve-wracking incident while his wife was doing laundry at their Mpopoma home.
Sources said Nachi was rushed to Mpilo with life-threatening injuries and blood pouring from his wounds.
The sources told Southern Eye that Nachi had died due to excessive bleeding.
He was said to be restless on Saturday night although he did not say anything to his wife.
On Sunday morning, his wife went outside to do some laundry and Nachi is said to have got out of bed, taken a knife and sliced his genitals.
His wife discovered him lying in a pool of blood and she called an ambulance which rushed him to hospital.
Sources said Nachi seemed confused upon arrival at Mpilo and they could not ascertain what could have caused him to mutilate himself.

Mpilo Hospital clinical director Wedu Ndebele confirmed that they had attended to a man who mutilated his genitals.
“I can confirm that we received a patient like that in one of our wards,” Ndebele said.
He said police were now handling the issue to establish whether the incident was indeed self-inflicted or a crime had ben committed.
But he could not be drawn into releasing more details saying it was now a police case.
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo was said to be out of the office when contacted for comment.
