Mutasa guided the platinum miners to a respectable fourth position last season when he was the interim coach.

FC Platinum club president George Mawere confirmed Mutasa’s appointment yesterday.

“We have appointed him (Mutasa) on a two-year contract. He did very well last season when he was in charge so we have retained him,” he said.

Mawere also confirmed the restructuring of the technical department from the junior ranks, as they harbour a vision of creating a vibrant junior structure.

“We have also appointed Jairos Tapera as the head coach of our juniors in Division 1. That team is very important to us as it feeds the senior team.

“I also want to make it very clear that we have not demoted him from the technical director role, but we have reassigned him,” he said.

“Our former senior team head coach Tendai Chikuni is now the head coach of our academy at Guinea Fowl High School in Gweru.

“We have made these changes in line with our new project of investing in the juniors, that is why we have retained Mutasa who is good at talent identification and we have also reassigned experienced coaches to the junior ranks.

“We have invested a lot of money in players, but now we want to groom our own,” he said.

Their academy at Guinea Fowl High School this year had three of its products Tatenda Dzumbunu, Livingstone Genti and Godfrey Chisango promoted to the platinum miners senior team. The Gweru-based academy is enjoying the blessings of Guinea Fowl High school head Manson “Dad” Mudzingwa.

Mudzingwa’s contribution to the game cannot be taken lightly having overseen the development of players like Bloemfontein Celtic forward Roderick Mutuma during his stint at Mvuma’s Leopold Takawira Secondary School where he was headmaster before assuming the same post at his current base.
