On Wednesday the group performed at Cambridge while last night it was expected to bring down the house at Poole at the Lighthouse.

The group has been described by many in various ways with their audiences saying they are electrifying and irresistible.

With their enthusiastically eclectic mix of pan-African styles and Tonga rhythms, Mokoomba have propelled themselves into the vanguard of fresh new talent emerging from Zimbabwe, brandishing a banner of hope and pursuing their goals with determination and abundant talent, say music lovers.

Part of a post reads: “The group hails from Victoria Falls region, home to the Tonga-speaking minority. With their album Rising Tide they have intrigued and surprised music critics across the globe and earned themselves invitations by everyone — from WOMAD to Jools Holland — as well as a whole ream of awards.

“Rather than copying the mainstream, their music is fresh and original, exploiting Tonga rhythms offset with Congolese grooves and dashes of rap, ska, and latin.”

Mokoomba has been hailed as the most impressive band Zimbabwe has produced in recent memory, while the electrifying intensity of lead singer Mathias Muzaza has been described as a “spinal experience”.

A roller-coaster ride of raw energy and youthful passion, some said.
