ZVA secretary-general Ringisai Mapondera yesterday confirmed the postponement of the series.

“We have had a few hiccups because we had been concentrating on the teams that went to Mozambique and the team that was due to travel to Ghana for the Youth Olympic Qualifiers. A committee has been put in place and they are working on the logistics to ensure the start of the series. Players who are in the national teams are the same players who were supposed to be preparing for the beach volleyball series,” he said.

Mapondera has previously indicated that the beach volleyball series are aimed at ensuring players are involved on a regular basis — taking part in regular tournaments which will be played once or twice a month with players expected to accumulate points which will be ranked at the end of the year since beach volleyball is an individual sport.

He said they were concerned that the beach volleyball team failed to travel to Ghana.

“Even though we try to source funds for ourselves we approached the government hoping that we would get assistance to send a team to Ghana, but we did not get anything. We were hoping that some effort will be put to help finance our team which is a national team,” Mapondera said.
