The firm is expected to build 16 new rooms in addition to the existing 34, a bigger restaurant, bar and a casino facility.

It has a well-furnished 300-seater conference room and an upmarket restaurant.

Pote Hill Lodge is located less than a kilometre from the Zvishavane central business district, a mining hub within the Midlands province famed for its platinum, gold, chrome and diamond deposits.

In an interview with Southern Eye Business on Friday Pote Hill Lodge manager Victor Mavingire said the 16 rooms are expected to be completed in three months’ time while the rest of the expansion would be concluded by the end of year.

“We are on the process of expansion, we wanted to build 16 rooms, bigger restaurant and bar. We want also to put a casino. In the next five years we are aiming to upgrade our hotel to become a two or three-star hotel,” he added.

Mavingire said they were facing challenges from a new breed of players that have penetrated the industry, whose aim was just to make “quick bucks”.

He said the new entrants in the industry were charging ridiculously low prices for products Mavingire said were far below the set standards.

Pote Hill Lodge was established in 2012 initially as a lodge before being upgraded to a one-star hotel status in September 30 2013.

The hotel emerged top in the hotels category at the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce annual awards held in Gweru early this year.
