A GWERU woman died in a suspected suicide case after she threw herself under a moving haulage truck.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the death of the woman, whose identity is yet to be ascertained.
“The fatal accident occurred on July 9 at around 2pm at the 276 km peg along Harare-Bulawayo Road, near Glow Fuel Station, in Gweru, where a woman was run over by a haulage truck,” Mahoko said.
He said Christopher Malunga (58) of Kuwadzana, Harare, was driving a haulage truck along Lobengula Street in the Midlands capital.
On approaching Glow Service Station, it is alleged that the woman threw herself under the truck, in a suspected suicide act and was run over by the rear wheels.
Police attended the scene and conveyed the deceased’s body to Gweru Provincial Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting post-mortem.
“The woman did not have identification particulars on her,” Mahoko said.
“We call upon those with a missing female relative to approach Zimbabwe Republic Police Gweru traffic for identification.”
