The competition is played over a year with participants accumulating points at the end of each game. The golfer who comes on top of the final Order of Merit becomes the champion and wins the green jacket.

Competition convener Kwangwari Kwangwari yesterday said many members have confirmed participation.

“We are having our second game of the season on Sunday. Thirty-two players have already confirmed participation. Some of the golfers who will will take part are Moses Nzapu, former Highlanders chairman Themba Ndlela, Tawo Paguwa, Charles Ndlovu, Kim Hongkee and Mufaro Chivonivoni,” he said.

Other members of the competition who could feature on the day are football legend Ebson “Sugar” Muguyo, former champion Joseph Mushaka, Francis Chigwedere, Jebus Karuru, Linda Rubaya and Margaret Vera.

Chivonivoni emerged winner of the Mbada golf society first game of the season that was played at Bulawayo Golf Club last month.

He netted 67 after grossing 72 playing off handicap five while Muguyo was second after he grossed 84 playing off handicap 16 to net 68.

Meanwhile, Kwangwari said they were yet to confirm if the Mbada Golf Society elections would be held on Sunday.

The outgoing executive consists of Brian Sanangurai (president), Alexio Paradzai (vice-president), Munyaradzi Nzarayapenga (secretary) while Chenge Chivonivoni has been the vice-secretary.

Reigning Mbada champion Wishes Nyoni has been the treasurer deputised by Vera.

Tonderai Gavu and Kwangwari have been the captain and vice-captain respectively.

The elections were due to be held last month, but were deferred to end of May because the members did not make up a + quorum.
