He was 57.
A brother to the deceased, Robert Ndlovu, said Rhodes’ death was untimely as he had spent the whole of Saturday addressing youths at a church conference in Esigodini and also led a church service in Kezi the following day.
“It is still unbelievable that he is gone. Although he was asthmatic, no one could ever think he could leave us this soon because he looked fit and strong,” Robert said.
“What is more puzzling is that on Saturday he spent the day in Esigodini addressing youth and on the day he died, he had just got home from Kezi where he was leading a church service.”
Robert said on the fateful evening, his brother parked his car in the yard and complained of chest pains and asked one of his children to warm some water for him. His condition worsened and he was rushed to a clinic in Nketa where he was later pronounced dead.
He had served the church from 1972 starting off as an evangelist before becoming a pastor.
