Zanu PF war of words

“Please, I am now tired of contesting and also being in active politics . . . let others take part,” Politburo member Sikhanyiso Ndlovu

ZANU PF senior official Sikhanyiso Ndlovu has warned that the Unity Accord is in danger as the fight for top posts escalates ahead of the party’s December congress.

Ndlovu penned a hard-hitting response in the State media to claims by Zanu PF spokesperson Rugare Gumbo and secretary for administration Didymus Mutasa that the post of Zanu PF chairman is not reserved for former PF Zapu members. He said there were attempts to turn the 1987 Unity Accord into a “nightmare”, in apparent reference to Mutasa’s campaign to be the next Zanu PF chairperson.

“Of late, it is most unfortunate that some people want to turn that great national vision of unity into a nightmare,” Ndlovu wrote.
“Is it because Joshua Nkomo, Joseph Msika and John Nkomo passed on?”

The secretary for education in the Zanu PF politburo said it was not the first time some party officials tried to discard the Unity Accord.

“Efforts to torpedo the Unity Accord were tried by the same people when (Joseph) Msika took over (Joshua) Nkomo’s position as vice -president and when (John) Nkomo came on board as well as when we nominated Simon Khaya Moyo as national chairman,” Ndlovu
said.

“We corrected that with the support of the majority progressive revolutionary provincial co-ordination committees of all the provinces and all the people of Zimbabwe.”

Mutasa tried to challenge Moyo for the post of Zanu PF chairman, but did not get any support from the party structures.

He has indicated that he would be interested in the post that Moyo is expected to vacate at the congress as he is largely expected to become second vice-president.

However, former PF Zapu members believe the post is reserved for them, setting the stage for a bruising battle that could put the accord that ended the Gukurahundi atrocities on the line.

Mutasa and Gumbo have stated that there was nothing in the Unity Accord indicating the post was reserved for former PF Zapu members, an assertion Ndlovu blasted.

“Unity meant mutual respect and making national resources available, government agencies, parastatals boards (being) equitably (shared) between former PF Zapu and former Zanu-PF,” he said.

“The Unity Accord document is like a marriage certificate. Does a marriage certificate put in writing everything that should be done by those married to make the marriage work?”

He attacked the two for discussing the matter in the private media. Ndlovu also revealed that there were some senior leaders who had coined a slogan “Pamberi ne Zanu PF chaiyo chaiyo (forward with the original Zanu PF)”.

“This is dangerous and cannot be tolerated,” he said.

In 2008, one of the surviving former top PF Zapu officials Dumiso Dabengwa quit Zanu PF. One of the reasons was that the Unity Accord was not being respected especially when it came to posts.

  1. It is disheartening to note that the likes of Mutasa and Rugare Gumbo, due to their dangerous ambitions, now disregard the Unity that was forged by PF_ZAPU and ZANU_PF. these gentlemen, if I may call them that, have never respected any other person from PF_ZAPU for ages and they think the rest of us are not aware of the contents of the Uity Accord. The Chairmanship of ZANU_PF is a preserve for former ZAPU_PF leaders and as well as one Vice- President post. Try to change that and you have done away with the Unity Agreement indeed. There is nothing special about the two ambitious members who are even a danger to the whole nation. They have become so old that their brains have expired and nobody needs them at all. The Manicaland one has even been fuelling hatred amongst the Manicas. We are aware of their dangerous aspirations and they will never get anywhere at all.

  2. shuwa lina bantu bezapu who are now in zanu licabanga ukuthi i unity le yayliqinso. @ mendeka, the mutasa and rugares are not having dangerous ambitions but are testing to find out if what was zanu’s original plan is now possible. that is to make sure that zapu is wiped out of history completely which their leader wanted from the beginning and history books have started teaching it. these guys are talking their masters real heart, unfortunately letting the cat out of the bag too early. zapu is still to be asked to give up some of the clauses in the agreement and they will have no choice but to. remember after mugabe this unity will fall away. so if vice presidents is for zapu, will zapu. ever be given the presidences. in other words zapu will forever play second fiddle. thats why even now in the succession race no matter how good the former zapu people are they are being considered as the next presidents. thats why people like mpofu who are there for money will always say we dont want mugabe’s job. they know that zapu is the minor partner in this arrangement. maybe thats why i think jonathan moyo has a little bit of brains in this one.

  3. Me thinks it starts from smaller issues like now the Byo Province will be hosting youth games, already people are complaining about contributing $1.00. Mark my words, watch who will benefit from the economic spill offs as set by hosting this event. Ha! Bulawayo layangisa uNkomo shuwa, wake up and be counted, then the whole nation can say you are capable of being whatever position!

  4. I think this accord is flawed or it was made to address issues then and it has expired . Someone must tell the truth . From the look of things former ZAPU members are not eligible for the presidency .
