The Zanu PF supporters from various high-density suburbs of Bulawayo, claiming to have the blessings of the party’s top brass, yesterday vowed to stay put on Dabengwa’s farm saying it was too big for him.

They told Southern Eye at the farm that the invasion was a continuation of Zanu PF’s ongoing programme to ensure that all landless blacks had land.

According to the land grabbers, the former Zipra top commander and other black farmers in Matabeleland are to blame for the collapse of Bulawayo industries.

The Zanu PF supporters said farm owners in Matabeleland were underperforming, resulting in farmers from Mashonaland selling their produce in the region.

“We are not going anywhere as you can see. I failed to get any land in 2000 and this is my time,” one of the invaders, Witness Mathuthu, who claimed to be from Cowdray Park, said.

Southern Eye was informed that Zanu PF officials, who led the invasion of the Bulawayo City Council-owned Mazwi Nature Reserve close to St Peter’s on the outskirts of the city last month were the ones leading the seizure of Dabengwa’s farm.

A command centre has been reportedly set up at Mazwi Nature Reserve where any individual seeking land can approach Zanu PF officials to be allocated a piece of land at the sanctuary, Dabengwa’s farm and other properties targeted for invasions. Southern Eye was told that Tariro Magovanyika, a Zanu PF Cowdray Park district chairperson, Ackim Ndlovu and Mark Makotami were in charge of the current invasions.

Magovanyika confirmed that the land grabs would continue, saying they were targeting underutilised farms.

“In 2000, people got land and some of us were left out. We have studied ZimAsset and it says we should take charge of our resources, revive our industries and economy and what we are doing is to identify underutilised farms to achieve that,” he said.

“As it is, in Bulawayo we buy most of our edibles from Mashonaland because most of the farms here are underutilised.

“However, I am not in charge of this invasion, but there is a guy called Ngqabutho Nkomo, a former soldier based at Imbizo, who happens to be our shadow councillor in Cowdray Park who is working with another comrade called Mabadza. They are the ones in charge,” Magovanyika said.

“I was in charge of the operations at Mazwi Game Reserve where I have since allocated over 2 000 people pieces of land ranging up to 12 hectares.

“We have also taken a portion of Kloof Farm in Matabeleland North that was once owned by one A Viva and resettled our people there.”
Nkomo and Mabadza could not be reached for comment.

The Zanu PF officials are reportedly demanding groceries, $5 and money for fuel from anyone seeking land to travel to the invaded farms. Dabengwa confirmed yesterday that his farm had been invaded.

“I have been told by my employees that the farm has been invaded. I don’t know the motive behind all this,” he said.

“I am travelling to the farm in the evening to find out more about this. I cannot say much now because I don’t have details.”

  2. THIS IS IN PREPARATION OF THE 2018 ELECTIONS BYO. MPOFU SAID LAST WEEK THAT THE FARMS WILL BE TAKEN SO IT HAS STARTED AND THE POLICE WILL BE HELPING IN THIS. THERE ARE STANDS AT PRESENT BEING ALLOCATED BY ZANU OFFICIALS TO CIVIL SERVANTS AFTER COWDRY PARK. MOST OF THESE ARE NUMBERS BEING ADDED TO BYO VOTERS ROLL FOR ZANU AT LEAST TO WIN. YOU ARE UNDER SIEGE BYO AND MAT.

  3. These guys are a disgrace and the worst idiots l have ever come across. Dumiso Dabengwa fought for the liberation of this country and in this instance even bought the farm in question. What he does with his farm is his own business. Let me tell you something; the majority of the people who will be pushed into his farm will not be from the Matebeleland region. Do these imbeciles know that Matebeleland is a dry region not good for crop farming. Are they are aware that Zanu is responsible for the lack of infrastructural development like irrigation and dams and in the process perpetuated the current state of affairs over the years. Where is the Zapu and MDC youths to defend our freedom fighters. This is the second incident where prominent Matebeleland land owners are being targeted. The other time it was Mr Majele and now Mr Dabengwa. People of the region wake up.

  4. Zipra war vets where are you? This is unacceptable. We cant have our people terrorized by these thugs. You keep quite tomorrow it will be you.

  5. who is invading the farms in mashonaland that arent being fully utilised?..you wont hear of it,it only happens in matland amd the poor economy, closing of factories and high unemployment figures…go and invade in harare and surounding areas and see if you will come out of it alive…lokhu okungabantu okusebenzisa ama alias ayisikho kwalana ko Mthwakazi, ngokuyizinja okuthunyiweyo from empumalanga to spear head the 2018 election rigging machine ye zanu as rightly put by see….

  6. The people fought against a system and not colour tribe or creed. The system then was discriminition against blacks in various fields. The invaders were owning multiple farms and very large farms. I dont think there is anyone undersiege as purported but there are a lot of people who still need that piece of cake(land). They watch with dismay that their brothers own too large farms which they purport are underutilised. People are worried about `SIZE` Asazi yikucabanga kwami. Ukuthi ubani uvela ngaphi lesibongo sakhe is imaterial Okumqoka `umhlabathi`

  7. i dont know if dumiso will be able to do anything with this. there look at him as toothless. remember they killed his friend lookout masuku and he has said nothing up to this day

  8. So even the liberators of this country, like Dabengwa are not respected in their own country. It’s sad, very sad.

  9. It is such lawlessness that drives away investor confidence in this country. Why Dabengwa’s farm? Whose farm will it be tomorrow? It is high time that the law enforcement agencies do their work and stop politicians from pulling them by the ears. History will judge us so badly. The invaders themselves must know that they are just being used. They should stop doing the dirty runs for the kingmakers. In the end they gain nothing but notoriety and a bleak future. What a shame!

  10. What most people in Bulawayo don’t know is that the ZANU government plans to extend the city limits to 40 kilometres all round. This will mean the creation of of new constituencies for the city, all of which will be under ZANU’s control. The invasions by that despicable party are a strategy to take control of the city’s administration and turn it and Matebeleland into a colony run from Harare. Will Dabengwa take any significant action to purge that scum from his farm (bought and not acquired)? Will the City of Bulawayo continue to be timid about the invasion of Mazwi Nature reserve? Will Councillors do nothing to stop the rot? If they don’t, let them know that this will be their very last term as Councillors!.
