This was heard when Norbert Prince Ndlovu of Siboza village under Chief Marubi in Gwanda appeared before Gweru magistrate Judith Taruvinga facing charges of unlawful entry, robbery and assault.

Taruvinga postponed the trial to Thursday.

According to the State’s outline, Ndlovu went to visit his mother, who worked as a maid at complainant Michael George Hudger’s house in Athlone suburb.

When Ndlovu got to Athlone, he allegedly broke into the dining room and climbed into the ceiling and gained entry into Hudger’s bedroom.

When Hudger heard noisy movements, he went to investigate, but Ndlovu hid behind the toilet door.

Ndlovu then allegedly grabbed Hudger by the neck and head-butted him before striking him with a toilet cistern lid and demanding cash and gold from him.

Ndlovu allegedly tied Hudger’s legs and hands with shoe laces and threatened to kill him if he did not give him money.

Hudger told Ndlovu to take money from his wallet and the accused took $500 and a mobile phone. When Ndlovu made further demands, Hudger gave him his car keys.

While Ndlovu was attempting to open the vehicle, Hudger managed to untie himself, but the accused fled into the night leaving the car keys behind.

A report was made to the police and Ndlovu was later arrested after being identified in the city centre two months later.
