Both Joey Antipas (Chicken Inn) and Luke Masomere (How Mine) have admitted they were not safe from the chop and have to move a gear up with the latter saying the gold miners would not be relegated.

Antipas, who joined Chicken Inn late last season after the fast-foods outlet outfit parted ways with Mandla “Lulu” Mpofu is eyeing a strong finish in the league starting with the game against How Mine tomorrow.

“We have got to come up with a strong finish to the season — you never know what can happen. We are still in the woods and we have to get ourselves out of there. We have a couple of injuries, Bheki (Ncube) is definitely out injured and George Majika is 50-50, but everyone else is raring to go,” Antipas said.

Despite appearing comfortable on position six with 33 points, the GameCocks are still not safe from relegation as they are to take on Black Rhinos, Triangle, FC Platinum Buffaloes and Harare City who are also mathematically not safe.

After How Mine and Black Rhinos, they will take on title-chasing Highlanders. Last week they beat city neighbours Bantu Rovers 2-1 at Hartsfield after losing 1-3 to Chapungu at Ascot.

It’s a revenge mission as How Mine, who beat them 2-1 in the league in the reverse fixture also bundled them out of the Chibuku Super Cup. Kuda Musharu grabbed a brace when How Mine beat Chicken Inn in May at Luveve when the gold miners were under Philani “Beefy” Ncube.

Masomere said How Mine was not going to be relegated, but was wary of Chicken Inn who have quality players and a good coach.

“We are not going to be relegated. Chicken have been playing well of late, they have quality players and a quality coach and this makes Saturday’s game an explosive encounter. We have to be very organised and put an extra effort. The preparations have been good and encouraging and I hope we carry the same mentality into Saturday,” Masomere said.

How Mine have 28 points and sit on position 11.
