Media tirade should be informed, sober

MEDIA personalities, be they in radio, film, newspaper, online, television, or any other genré, have a sound knowledge of how communication builds or destroys an individual.

MEDIA personalities, be they in radio, film, newspaper, online, television, or any other genré, have a sound knowledge of how communication builds or destroys an individual.

Consequently, every individual in any media genré holds sacrosanct the power and influence of the media and will not willy-nilly criticise any media stable.

Any criticism, especially resulting from an emotional hangover, smacks of irresponsibility especially where a paper has been fair, accurate and impartial in its record of events.

Some private media, if  Luke Mnkandla should be informed, report relevant, credible local news and persons given special responsibilities by football clubs should never be caught offside, especially when they are out of Bulawayo and believe that they are out of earshot of the private media.

Retired radio presenter Mnkandla is aware of the media that he worked for, which by any dint of the imagination, was never accurate in its depiction of the ordinary citizen of this country.

Indeed radio before and after independence, has been a mere regime arm responsible for suppression and denial of basic rights. After retirement, Mnkandla has probably found an avenue where he could speak his mind and ask for redress, an opportunity that he probably did not give on radio to suffering citizen of this country.

A media projected as “clowns” and “smelly”, but which has put people of the south on the map, is hardly a media to ignore and the fact that Mnkandla dares rant against it indicates that it has done something right.

There is something fishy going on at Highlanders Football Club from officials that Bosso has selected to do pieces of work. If individuals are ignoring the noble purpose of performing duties for a club, but are taking the given opportunity to settle personal scores or to elbow out others from club positions unfairly, it is up to the media to report impartially on such developments.

Mgcini Nkolomi ought not to apologise on behalf of Mnkandla. If Mnkandla is not guilty of underhand dealings on the Enerst “Maphepha” Sibanda issue, then the truth shall set him free.

But if he turns an annual general meeting (AGM) for a football club into a battle zone against the media, then he is destroying the very reputation of a club he is trying to build, and to use a cliché, he is putting the name of Bosso into disrepute.

Discipline in AGMs which have an effect on how a team plots its future, is key. Sober reflection is necessary to plot the future a team needs, and when teams allow tirades and not planning, any football supporter would be worried and very much afraid for the future of any club.
