BAB chairman Manuel Mpofu confirmed the annual event which is used to select athletes to represent the province in national championships in Kadoma on February 14.

“We will be having a cross-country event at Luveve High School on Saturday where we shall select the final team to represent Bulawayo at the National cross-country championship pencilled for February 14 at Kadoma Sports Club”

“On Sunday we will be having track and field competition which we hope to have at the White City Stadium.

“We expect athletes to put maximum effort since our selection will be based on performance and merit. We are not just taking people to Kadoma, but we will look at their performances”

Some of the athletes participating are Zimbabwe National Army’s Leonard Koki who won the season opener last month at Nketa, Mpopoma, in 41mins 43,34secs, ZRP Irvine Mpofu, Trust Chidamoyo, John Parira and Ngonidzashe Ncube in the senior men’s category.

In the junior women’s category are Sparrows’ Cynthia Taderera, Sandra Taderera and Patience Gurure who has been representing Bulawayo well on the national arena.
