Ezimnyama dance ensemble celebrates 6th anniversary

EZIMNYAMA Dance ensemble will hold an award ceremony to commemorate its sixth anniversary at Matshobane Hall in Bulawayo on February 9.

The arts group was formed in February 2009 and it performs traditional, modern and contemporary dances.

The group works with schools and other organisations to provide opportunities for quality intercultural exchanges through dance.

Speaking to Southern Eye Lifestyle, Ezimnyama arts director Phibion Ncube said the awards were designed to thank promoters and various stakeholders.

“This year we celebrate six years of arts excellence in style,” he said.

“This is to show our appreciation to promoters, who include Ingwebu Breweries, Choppies Supermarkets, Hawkflight constructions, Mathonisa, Club Marula, the Bulawayo community and artistes that have given their talents and energy to Ezimnyama.”

He added: “We are excited about the celebrations. Our road has not been easy, but through hard work, discipline, networking with various stakeholders and perseverance, we succeeded. We are passionate about the arts and are proud to have come this far.”

Kaisa, Impumelelo Shining Stars and Bambelela Arts will perform on the day.

Ezimnyama performed at the Intwasa Arts Festival koBulawayo 2014. It is the resident group at Club Marula, Mathonisa and Manwele beer gardens.

The ensemble came second at the Chibuku Neshamwari provincial dance competition held last year at a local hotel with their umtshongoyo dance.

The group took part in an Indian dance event called Moru Sapera Dance Party at Bulawayo Theatre in May 2014 and was crowned the best contemporary dance group at the Bulawayo 120-year celebrations last year.

Ezimnyama has been part of Eziko Theatre Laboratory, a local arts programme aimed at providing an arena for local artistes to review and critique their artistic products.
