The women’s team was affected by the injury of national team player Geraldine Chibonda.

BBA president Opportunity Moyo yesterday said they were pleased with the performance despite tragic news they received and Chibonda’s injury.

“The loss of a teammate’s family member lowered the team spirit,” she said.

“However, the teams gave an outstanding performance given the circumstances. l am proud of them and their coaches brought an A game.

“Chibonda was rushed to hospital on Saturday after suffering from unusual stomach cramps,  but it turned out to be nothing serious as she played very well the following day.”

Chibonda was injured in the women’s Afro-Basket tournament in Mozambique last year.

Moyo said they were worried as they feared it could be as a result of the injury she sustained in Mozambique.

“It immediately gave us a scare because she once got injured while competing for Zimbabwe in Mozambique and had to undergo a surgery.

Our fear was that it was something as serious as before,” she said.

Bulawayo  senior women scooped silver while senior men walked away with bronze.

Moyo expressed her gratitude to Glen Tours, Paddys Veggies and JPV (Harare) for  assisting in the tournament.
