The Sevens Summer series is the first event for the year.

The southern region clubs will play at Hartsfield Rugby Ground, Bulawayo, while teams from the northern region will be at Old Georgians, Harare.

ZRU provincial development officer Ruben Kumpasa said the best teams from the regions would meet in the final and the tournament would give national selectors an opportunity to choose players for the Cheetahs.

The Cheetahs will take part in the Hong Kong Sevens from March 27 and 29.

In Bulawayo, teams expected to take part are Matabeleland Busters, Old Miltonians, Western Panthers, Police, Bulldogs, Gweru Sports Club and Zvishabane Bulls.

Schools will curtain-raise.

However, Kumpasa indicated that financial problems had led to some teams failing to participate.

“We expect a full turnout, although some teams such as Gweru Sports Club and Zvishavane Bulls usually face transport challenges,” he said.

“We are hoping to have them because this tournament has always been a success.”
