HEALTH officials in Beitbridge have quarantined two children who are suspected of suffering from cholera, it was reported yesterday.

According to the Beitbridge district Civil Protection Unit, the children from the Donsa area near the border town, are being monitored at the local general hospital where they have been admitted since the weekend.

The latest cases raise the spectre of the 2008 deadly cholera outbreak that claimed more than 4 000 lives and affected close to 100 000 others.

Zimbabwe is one of the Southern African countries prone to cholera outbreaks, mostly during the rainy season. The disease has so far this year claimed more than 40 lives in flood-prone neighbouring Mozambique.
