Brighton Nzirambiri denied the rape charges when he appeared before Bulawayo regional court magistrate Mark Dzira yesterday.

He told the court that he did not rape any one of them, but he slept with them after they agreed he would pay them $5 each for services.

The matter was remanded to March 11 for continuation of trial after the State had called the investigating officer, Constable Simforosa Mudzingwa, based at Plumtree Police Station, to testify on her findings in the case.

Mudzingwa told the court that Nzirambiri had allegedly abused three girls after he ordered them to undress and lie on his bed before he had sex with them without their consent.

She said she found out that the accused used condoms when he engaged in sex with the girls. The police officer said she discovered that the first complainant had multiple lacerations on her body, which she alleged were caused by Nzirambiri when he assaulted her with an electric code.

“On his arrest, the accused denied allegations of assaulting them, but later admitted that he had sex with them after they agreed that he would pay them $5 each for the services,” Mudzingwa said.

“I recovered the code that was used.

“I found out that the second complainant was cohabiting with the accused and she said they had been staying together for the past month.

“She said the accused’s claims that they had agreed to be paid $5 by him were false, as she would not have demanded money since she stayed with him as his girlfriend.”

The first and third complainants stayed together, while the second complainant was their cousin.

Prosecutor Tinashe Dzipe told the court that on March 1 this year at 9pm the first complainant, a girl whose age was not stated, and her friend aged 17 visited her cousin aged 15 who is the second complainant and Nzirambiri’s girlfriend. She found her cousin alone at home and Nzirambiri arrived later.

He allegedly started accusing the girls of being prostitutes before taking an electric code, which he used to flog them all over their bodies.

Nzirambiri allegedly armed himself with a knife and ordered them to remove their clothes and lie on his bed.

He then raped his girlfriend’s cousin using a condom.

On the second count, it is alleged that he raped his girlfriend aged 15 while using a condom and later raped their friend.

The girls reported to their parents and the rape incidents were reported to the police, leading to Nzirambiri’s arrest.
