Gerald Chinoganda, who resides at Lundi Bridge compound, appeared before magistrate Sangster Tavengwa facing murder charges after he hit Anesu Moyo three times on the back of his left ear with a knobkerrie. The two failed to agree on who was to buy opaque beer.
Chinoganda was remanded in custody to March 23.
Prosecutor Ausi Saidi opposed bail saying if Chinoganda was freed, there was a possibility he would drink beer and commit a similar offence.
The prosecutor argued that he was likely to flee to Mozambique, a country he once visited, if granted bail.
Saidi told the court that the Lundi community was baying for his blood at the time of his arrest and was likely to unleash instant justice if he was freed.
It is the State’s case that on March 6 at Lundi Bridge compound, Chinoganda and Moyo were drinking beer together.
