Zanu PF official in trouble for assaulting sister

A MEMBER of the Zanu PF provincial women’s league executive was on Tuesday slapped with a wholly suspended sentence after she was convicted for assaulting her younger sister.

Girlie Marongwe of 35 Malvern Road, Lundi Park, Gweru, grabbed her sister Ashley by the neck after she refused to be sent to the shops in Senga.

Gweru magistrate Judith Taruvinga slapped Marongwe with a wholly suspended two-month jail term for the offence.

The State’s case was that on January 15 this year, Marongwe sent her younger sister Ashley to Chirandu business centre in Senga while she went to a nearby bar.

At around 7:30pm Marongwe returned from the bar and found out that her sister had not followed her instructions after their mother had prohibited Ashley from going to the shops.

Out of fury, Marongwe pounced on Ashley’s neck accusing her of “being a prostitute’s child”.

A report was made to the police, leading to the arrest of the accused person.

Marongwe is not new to controversy as she was in the news last year for storming Zanu PF offices in Gweru demanding to know how $1 000 donated for women’s projects at the memorial service of the ex-governor’s late wife Charlotte Sithabile Msipa was used by party officials.
