JOHANNESBURG — The queen of gospel music Rebecca Malope is selling cooking pots like hot cakes!
But she did not know that her face has been the draw card for the pots.
“Ribs” has been the face of the Bon Voyage LC3 catering pot set for more than four years. And her face has helped the pots sell in their thousands.
But the multiple award-winning star said she did not know that she was advertising the pots.
“The only thing I know is that a Chinese company approached me three to four years ago to endorse the cooking pots.
“The agreement was that it was going to be for one year only. I was not aware that they’re still using my name,” Malope said.
Malope said she did not know the details of the contract because the matter was handled by somebody else.
“I don’t know if the agreement was signed for me to be the ambassador.”

An assistant cashier at a shop in Jo’burg said that the pots are a big hit.
“Many people buy the pots because they recognise her.
“People see her picture on the box of the cooking pot set and love it, so they snap up the set,” the assistant said.
Sunday Sun sources said the Ribs cooking pot sets are mainly sold in supermarkets and shops owned by Chinese and Indian nationals all over Mzansi.
