A 17-YEAR-OLD Evelyn High School student allegedly gave birth at the school premises, shoved the infant into her school bag and hid it in a wardrobe at home, leading to its death.

The girl yesterday appeared before Western Commonage provincial magistrate Willard Mafios Moyo where she was charged for concealing a birth.
She was not asked to plead and remanded out of custody to May 7 for trial.
The girl’s mother broke into tears as she stood in the witness stand.
According to court records, the girl’s mother did not know that her daughter was pregnant.
Prosecutor Mufaro Mageza told the court that on a date unknown to the prosecution, the teenage mother reportedly gave birth and stashed the infant into her school bag before hiding it in the wardrobe.
The crime came to light when her sister decided to tidy up her bedroom and do laundry. She opened her sister’s satchel and discovered a dead baby.
